Camping Green
1. Water and Energy
In Sardinia, water and energy are precious resources that deserve to be used responsibly.
Every day, we work to reduce waste and improve efficiency while ensuring that our guests continue to enjoy a comfortable stay.
What we do in practice
Drinking water throughout the campsite and less single-use plastic
Drinking water is available throughout the campsite. Safe drinking water flows from every tap in the bungalows, sanitary facilities, showers, dishwashing areas, laundry areas and public water points.
This allows guests to refill reusable bottles and flasks wherever they are, reducing the need to buy plastic bottles and helping to minimise waste.
LED lighting
All lighting throughout the campsite uses energy-efficient LED technology. This significantly reduces electricity consumption while providing pleasant and safe lighting along pathways, in communal areas and in the sanitary facilities.
Electric vehicle charging stations
Two 22 kW charging stations are available for electric vehicles, encouraging more sustainable mobility as part of our commitment to reducing our environmental impact.
Motion sensors in the sanitary facilities
Lighting in the communal bathrooms is controlled by motion sensors, helping to reduce energy consumption while ensuring comfort and safety.
Photovoltaic system
The campsite is equipped with a photovoltaic system that generates renewable electricity. As a result, part of our energy demand is covered by renewable sources, helping to reduce our overall environmental impact.
Responsible use of water
Throughout the campsite we encourage guests to use water responsibly through simple and clear messages: turn off taps when not in use, keep showers as short as possible, avoid unnecessary water waste during washing.
Camper service and environmental protection
Our fully equipped camper service allows the safe disposal of grey and black water and the cleaning of freshwater tanks. The area has been designed to prevent leakage into the soil, ensure wastewater is correctly managed and minimise water consumption during cleaning.
Monitoring and continuous improvement
Throughout the season we carefully monitor our water and energy consumption to identify opportunities for further improvement. Our goal is to become an increasingly efficient and resource-conscious campsite, year after year.
2. Waste and Plastic
Camping means living close to nature. Keeping the environment clean starts with responsible waste management.
At Camping Capo Ferrato, waste separation is mandatory, but we also aim to make it as simple and straightforward as possible for everyone.
What we do in practice
One central Eco Island with staff assistance
We have created a single central Eco Island, where guests can dispose of their waste during dedicated opening hours. A member of our team is always available to help both Italian and international guests separate their waste correctly. Waste separation systems vary from place to place, and while on holiday it’s natural to follow the habits you’re used to or simply pay a little less attention. That’s why we prefer to assist our guests, making it easier for everyone to adopt the correct habits.
Clear and easy waste separation
We separate organic waste, glass and cans, plastic, paper/cardboard and residual waste. Clear signs and easy-to-understand illustrations show guests exactly where each type of waste belongs. Information is available in several languages, making the system easy to understand for international visitors.
Less plastic thanks to drinking water
Because drinking water is available throughout the campsite, guests can refill reusable bottles instead of buying single-use plastic bottles. Together with proper waste separation, this helps reduce waste and protect the surrounding environment.
Encouraging good habits
We aim to make waste separation a natural everyday habit, especially for families and children. We believe that learning to recycle properly, even while on holiday, is a practical way to care for Sardinia—and perhaps take home one more good habit for everyday life.
3. Nature, Sea and Biodiversity
The beach of Costa Rei and the natural landscape surrounding the campsite are our greatest treasure.
Every day, we are committed to protecting them and to offering our guests the opportunity to experience nature in an authentic and respectful way.
What we do in practice
Sustainable beach management and sea turtles
We manage our equipped beach responsibly and actively support projects dedicated to the protection of sea turtles. Whenever a nest is discovered or an important sighting occurs, we work alongside the competent authorities to protect it, while involving our guests and explaining how simple everyday actions can help safeguard the sea and the wildlife that depends on it.
Botanical walks and guided beach experiences
We organise guided walks and environmental activities along the beach to discover dune plants, understand how the coastline has evolved and appreciate why sand, shells and coastal vegetation are so valuable.
Our goal is simple: once you understand the story behind this environment, respecting it becomes the most natural thing to do.
Creative workshops inspired by nature
Adults and children can take part in workshops using natural local materials and traditional techniques to create small handmade souvenirs. It is a way of taking home a memory of Sardinia while respecting nature and leaving its treasures where they belong.
Green areas cared for with respect for local vegetation
We maintain the campsite’s green areas with particular attention to native vegetation and promote outdoor activities that encourage guests to experience nature without impacting it. We hope that every walk among the pitches, along the beach or under the stars becomes an opportunity to feel part of the landscape rather than simply observing it.
4. Culture, Gastronomy and Traditions
For us, sustainability is not only about protecting the environment. It also means preserving identity, traditions, local flavours and the knowledge of the people who live here. For many years, Camping Capo Ferrato has promoted experiential tourism that allows guests to discover the authentic soul of Sardinia.
What we do in practice
Settimane Sarde (Sardinian Experience Weeks)
In spring and autumn we organise the Settimane Sarde (Sardinian Experience Weeks), a programme of experiences designed to introduce guests to Sardinia’s traditions, culture, nature, history and gastronomy. Visits to local producers, meetings with artisans, traditional cooking workshops and evenings with archaeologists, astrophysicists, botanists and other experts transform a holiday into a genuine journey of discovery.
A genuine connection with the local community
The local community is not simply part of the background: it plays a central role in the experiences we offer.
Local residents, producers, artisans and professionals share stories, recipes, traditions and knowledge, creating an authentic exchange between visitors and the territory.
Ristorante “Guido”
Ristorante “Guido” is much more than a traditional campsite restaurant. Its menu is inspired by Sardinian cuisine and prepared with fresh seasonal ingredients, always giving priority to local identity and regional products.
Sardinian wines and local wineries
Thanks to the passion and expertise of Guido, our sommelier, the wine list gives pride of place to Sardinian wineries, including many small producers rarely found in large retail outlets. This allows our guests to discover authentic local wines while supporting the work of local winegrowers.
An attentive approach to different dietary needs
Everyone has different habits, preferences and dietary needs, especially while travelling. For this reason, we strive to accommodate guests with specific dietary requirements whenever possible.
The campsite market offers gluten-free products, lactose-free foods and a selection of items suitable for different eating habits, including vegetarian and vegan options. While Ristorante “Guido” remains firmly rooted in Sardinian and Mediterranean culinary traditions, the staff are always happy to provide information about ingredients and to consider guests’ individual requests whenever possible.
We prefer to approach this subject with honesty and transparency. Our goal is to continue improving our offer over time, combining the promotion of local cuisine and regional products with growing attention to the different dietary needs of our guests.
5. Local Community and Longer Season
A destination is truly sustainable when tourism brings value to the local community throughout the year, not only during the high season.
What we do in practice
One of the longest seasons in Sardinia
Camping Capo Ferrato is one of the campsites with the longest opening seasons in Sardinia, welcoming guests from spring through autumn. This helps support the local economy beyond the peak summer months.
Partnerships with local producers and businesses
When choosing suppliers for the restaurant and the market, we give priority to local producers and Sardinian products. This creates a positive connection between the campsite, farmers, artisans, restaurants and other local businesses.
Participation in local events and initiatives
Through the Settimane Sarde (Sardinian Experience Weeks) and other activities, we accompany our guests to local festivals, traditional celebrations and events, also arranging dedicated shuttle services when possible.
In this way, our guests’ presence creates a positive impact on nearby villages and local businesses, allowing tourism to generate real value for the community.
6. Responsible Hospitality and Environmental Education
Sustainability is not measured only through technical actions: it is above all a way of experiencing the campsite together with our guests.
We want those who stay with us not only to feel good, but also to return home with new ideas, greater awareness and perhaps one more good habit.
Experiences of discovery and awareness
Throughout the season, we offer activities that combine pleasure, curiosity and respect for the territory:
- guided walks to discover the coast, plants and the history of the places around us;
- workshops and meetings about nature, the night sky, traditions and local products;
- moments dedicated to families and children, where learning becomes a game.
Simple and accessible communication
We use clear, friendly communication, with signs and information available in several languages. We explain why we make certain choices — waste separation, drinking water throughout the campsite, respect for the beach and other everyday actions — and we prefer direct dialogue: often, a simple conversation is worth more than a thousand written rules.
Hospitality that also includes pets
For many people, a pet is part of the family, and being able to share a holiday with it contributes to the wellbeing of the whole family unit.
For this reason, the campsite welcomes dogs and other small pets according to the rules set out in our regulations, providing dedicated services and encouraging respectful coexistence among all guests.
Our aim is to preserve the balance that characterises the campsite: welcoming those who travel with their pets while ensuring peace, cleanliness and respect for shared spaces.
A loyal team involved in our sustainability journey
The quality of hospitality also depends on the people who work here every day.
- Many members of our team have been working with the campsite for many years. This creates a loyal staff who know the place, its history and its guests very well.
- For us, it is essential that the people who work here feel respected, valued and part of a shared project. When the internal working environment is positive, this atmosphere naturally reflects in the way guests are welcomed.
- Guests often find the same familiar faces year after year. This creates trust, continuity and a warmer, more personal relationship, where people know each other by name and feel truly at home.
In this sense, sustainability also passes through our team: people who choose to stay, grow and improve together with the campsite, season after season.
7. Welcome, Respect and Accessibility
During the holiday season, Camping Capo Ferrato becomes a small community. Guests meet along the pathways, at the market, on the beach or near the sanitary facilities. Many return year after year, and lasting friendships are often born here.
The human scale of the campsite creates a peaceful atmosphere where everyone can enjoy their holiday feeling comfortable and at ease.
This is one of the aspects that our guests appreciate most and remember long after their stay.
Every family is welcome
At Camping Capo Ferrato, every family is welcome.
Couples, families with children, blended families, rainbow families and guests of different ages, cultures and backgrounds naturally share the same spaces.
We believe that genuine hospitality is built on simple everyday gestures: kindness, helpfulness and consideration for others.
This is the spirit that makes life at the campsite enjoyable and contributes to the relaxed atmosphere that so many guests appreciate year after year.
A campsite where people naturally connect
Life at the campsite makes it easy to get to know one another. A chat while washing the dishes, meeting at the market, greeting someone during a walk or sharing an evening together can grow into lasting friendships.
We believe this is also part of a more sustainable way of travelling: creating a place where people from different countries and cultures can meet, share experiences and discover how nature and the local area can become a common language that brings people together.
Accessibility: a practical and transparent commitment
Accessibility is an important topic that we approach with honesty and realism.
The natural characteristics of the area, the beach and the environmental protection regulations mean that it is not possible to make every part of the campsite fully accessible. Nevertheless, for many years we have been working to progressively improve the accessibility of our facilities.
Today the campsite offers:
- an accessible bungalow without architectural barriers;
- dedicated accessible sanitary facilities;
- a walkway providing access to the beach, suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs;
- personalised assistance before arrival to help guests choose the accommodation and services best suited to their needs.
We prefer to speak about accessibility with transparency, providing clear and accurate information so that every guest can plan their holiday with confidence, while continuing to improve our facilities year after year.
8. Green Destinations: Our International Sustainability Journey
Following the Legambiente Ecotourism Award, Camping Capo Ferrato decided to take a further step by embarking on an international sustainability journey with Green Destinations. Green Destinations is one of the world’s leading sustainability programmes, assessing tourism destinations and tourism businesses across four key areas: environmental, economic, social and cultural sustainability.
Camping Capo Ferrato is the first campsite in Italy to undertake such a structured Green Destinations programme. This means that we do not simply adopt good practices: we organise them, monitor their results and communicate them according to internationally recognised standards, with the ambition of becoming an inspiring example for other tourism businesses.
For us, Green Destinations is not simply a future certification. It represents a commitment to continuous improvement. Through this journey we aim to:
- better enhance and communicate the work we have been carrying out for many years;
- develop new initiatives that increasingly involve our guests;
- strengthen our connection with the local community and the surrounding territory.
From the very moment guests book their stay, we want them to know that by choosing Camping Capo Ferrato they become part of this journey. Through small everyday actions, they can help create a holiday that leaves a positive impact on the campsite, on Sardinia and on the people who call this island home.
