Our history

A campsite. A family. A vision.

There are places built on a project. And others built on an intuition.

We belong to the second category.

Capo Ferrato Camping Village in Costa Rei, on the south-eastern coast of Sardinia, goes back a long way, originating from a courageous, far-sighted idea and a deep bond with the local area. Our story began in 1965, when tourism in Sardinia was still in its infancy and investing in camping was, for many, a brave choice.

1965: when tourism in Sardinia was still a blank page

In the 1960s, Sardinia had not yet become the tourist destination we know today. Tourism on the Costa Smeralda was taking its first steps, but outdoor tourism was virtually unknown, and the equipped campsites on the island were few and far between.

This was the picture when, at the suggestion of Silvio Fanni, together with Mariangela Sechi and the other founding partners of the Muravera company – Giovanni (Nanni) Sechi, Giovanna (Tatonia) Irranca and Michelino Sechi – decided to invest in a new idea: to create one of the first campsites in Sardinia, run entirely by Sardinian entrepreneurs.

This courageous, intuitive idea was driven by our knowledge of the area and an ability to envision the changes on the way in the economy and travel habits.

From Capo Ferrato to Scoglio di Peppino: a choice that made a difference

The first plot we identified was near the Capo Ferrato promontory, at that time the only landmark in the local geography. But when we examined the sea and the sea bed more carefully, we realised that this beach was not suitable for families and children.

The decision to move the campsite to the Scoglio di Peppino bay, where the water slopes gently and the landscape is more protected, proved decisive. Today, the bay is considered one of the most beautiful on the south-east coast, and is one of the most peaceful and best-preserved spots in the whole of Costa Rei.

A “small” campsite: a deliberate choice

Right from the beginning, we’ve kept things small. Not for lack of ambition, but with a clear idea in mind: to place the accent on the human dimension, focusing on tranquillity and respect for the environment.

Over the years, this has become one of our greatest strengths. A neat, compact campsite, surrounded by nature, where guests feel welcome and valued, not just like customers passing through.

The first Bungalows

The early years: staying one step ahead

Much of our story is about careful adaptations and informed choices. In the 1970s, a natural event brought a small African beetle to the campsite that liked to make holes in the tents. This prompted a pioneering decision: the construction of the first bungalows, at a time when holiday villages or mobile homes were practically unheard of. This move opened up the campsite to new forms of hospitality, while maintaining its original spirit.

From youth tourism to families, and authentic experiences

When the second generation came on board, the campsite evolved significantly. Little by little, we chose to focus on families, couples, and above all guests drawn here by the local nature and culture.

This also made the campsite more appealing for spring and autumn breaks. In 2001, we decided to expand our services, moving towards experiential activities. In addition to the summer entertainment activities, we came up with an idea that paved the way for a broader sustainable tourism project: the Sardinian Weeks.

The Sardinian Weeks: when the experience becomes part of the holiday

The Sardinian Weeks were inspired by the idea that there’s more to a holiday than relaxing on the beach. It can also be an opportunity to explore and to learn about the surroundings. A programme of nature, cultural and gourmet activities, designed to tell the story of the real Sardinia, off the beaten track, organised in the low season.

We were offering experiential tourism long before it became a buzzword in the sector.

A family concern, with hands-on management

We still run the Capo Ferrato Camping Village directly today, with the younger generation now on board. Hands-on, everyday management, with effective choices, attention to detail and always ready to listen to our guests.

Today: quality, sustainability and an eye on the future

In recent years, we have invested in improving amenities, environmental sustainability and taking care of the common areas. A consistent approach that looks to the future, without betraying our values.

A story that never stops evolving, with a new chapter every season, in which our guests are the main characters.
